Conference on Pangasinan Language and Cultural Heritage

Kumperensya sa Muling Pagpapasigla ng Wika at Pamanang Kultural ng Pangasinan

 Magkakaroon ng dalawang araw na kumperensya para sa paglalahad at talakayan tungkol sa wika at pamanang kultural ng Pangasinan, kasaysayan, panitikan at literasiya at edukasyon sa lalawigan. Ito ay gaganapin sa Nobyembre 8-9, 2007 sa Urdaneta City Cultural Center. Sa mga araw na ito pararangalan din ang mga nanalo sa Gawad Komisyon 2007 para sa wikang Pangasinan. Ang pangkalahatang paksa ng dalawang araw na gawain ito ay “Revitalizing the Pangasinan Language and Cultural Heritage”. Ito ay itinataguyod ng Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino at Dr. Jose De Guzman Tamayo Foundation, Inc. sa pakikipagtulungan ng Panrehiyong Sentro sa Wikang Filipino, Pangasinan State University (Bayambang Campus) at ng Ulupan na Pansiansia’y Salitan Pangasinan.

Impressions on “No ID, No Entry” Policy: An Inquiry of its Means and Ends

It pains me everyday in seeing students who have no ID on hand are strongly being sent home or simply sent away by guards and teachers. Such depressing scenario achingly engulfs me even more with the thought that some students may have unfortunately left their IDs and have come far, far places just to attend their classes.

PROMOTING POSITIVE SELF-ESTEEM: MARKING PAPERS

Many of the things teachers do to promote, or inhibit, positive self-esteem, comes from unintended actions. There are obvious things teachers do, such as who is called on in the class, who’s papers are posted on the bulletin boards…but there are less obvious things that are done; actions which directly affect the students positive self-esteem.

The most frequent area where this is the case is with marking student papers.

The following are some quick tips which any teacher can immediately use in improving the positive self-esteem in the classroom:

NEVER GRADE IN RED INK. Red is a “negative” color. Think: stop signs and lights, warning labels, poisen, etc. Our society has conditioned us to immediately view red as something negative. Subconsciously, (and often conscientiously), a paper that is handed back full of red marks tells the student that he or she is a “dummy”. A “self-fulfilling prophesy” often results with these students!
